Learn Through the Stories of Hawaiʻi

Kaukoe a Poʻohala Grade 4 English Language Arts is a culturally grounded literacy program created to support students as they grow into more independent readers and writers through the language, stories, and places of Hawaiʻi. Across 8 units (4 weeks each), students explore Big Ideas and Essential Questions that connect reading and writing skills to identity, community, and responsibility to ʻāina. Through this program, students learn not only how to read and write with greater skill, but also why literacy matters — as a way to understand stories, express ideas clearly, and deepen their connection to place and culture.
