Learn Through the Stories of Hawaiʻi
Kaukoe a Poʻohala Grade 5 English Language Arts is a culturally grounded literacy program created to strengthen reading comprehension, writing, and critical thinking through the language, stories, and perspectives of Hawaiʻi. Across 8 units (4 weeks each), students explore Big Ideas and Essential Questions that encourage deeper analysis, thoughtful discussion, and evidence-based responses. Through this program, students learn not only how to read and write with greater depth and clarity, but also why literacy matters — as a way to understand multiple perspectives, communicate ideas effectively, and strengthen their connection to community, culture, and place.
